The Alpha Centauri System is a trinary star system with six planets, moons, and millions of asteroids.

In order of their distances from Alpha Centauri, the planets are Ac Yanto, Hulneb, Kumix, Ah Kin, Tabai, and Ahau-Kin. Three of the six planets are orbited by moons. All the planets are named after gods and goddesses from Mayan mythology.

[edit] Stellar Navigations

Alpha Centauri A is the Alpha Centauri System's primary star. Alpha Centauri A is a class G2V yellow dwarf. Alpha Centauri A's heliosphere occasionally combines with Alpha Centauri B's heliosphere to create powerful stellar storms which are serious navigation hazards, but usually space near terrestrial planet orbit is calm with only a particle windspeed of roughly 900,000 kilometers per hour.

Alpha Centauri B orbits Alpha Centauri A at a distance of 35.6AU. Alpha Centauri B is a class K1V orange dwarf. Alpha Centauri B represents the hyperspace limit of the Alpha Centauri system. Ships cannot jump into higher hyperspace bands within Alpha Centauri B's orbit, and are limited to the Adin Band.

Proxima Centauri orbits Alpha Centauri A at a distance of 13,000AU. Proxima Centauri is a class M5Ve red dwarf, which is too cold to interact with the planetary systems in Alpha Centauri. Proxima Centauri does present a hyperspace navigation hazard, and in order to jump into the planetary system itself navigators must bypass Proxima Centauri's sphere of influence.

The Alpha Centauri System is located in the Milky Way galaxy, in the Orion Arm. Alpha Centauri was the first extra-Solar colony in Terran civilization. The Sol System, Proxima Procyon System, and Tau Ceti System are considered close neighbors of Alpha Centauri.

[edit] Ac Yanto

Ac Yanto (0.1AU) is the closest planet to Alpha Centauri. It is a tiny sphere, blasted almost completely clear by solar winds. The planet has little to offer, and has never been fully charted or explored.

[edit] Hulneb

Hulneb (0.5AU) is close in size to Mars. It has a thick gas atmosphere that obscures most of the surface. No landing parties have been sent, but satellite fly-bys show nothing of value that cannot be obtained more easily elsewhere.

[edit] Kumix

Kumix (0.9AU) is slightly larger than Terra, but has a very thin carbon-dioxide atmosphere and is not currently inhabitable. It may eventually be a target for terraformation. It has one moon, Chamahez.

[edit] Ah Kin

Ah Kin (1.25 AU) is slightly smaller than Terra, but is inhabitable and supports a rather comfortable biosphere. It has significant geothermal activity which warms it from inside. The core is believed to be much hotter and more radioactive than Terra's, a theory which is supported by the high concentrations of rich radioactive fuel mined from Ah Kin's crust. Ah Kin has two moons, Ah Uuc and Ah Mun.

[edit] The Kuha Belt

The Kuha Belt (3.2AU) holds most of the asteroids in the Alpha Centauri System, and is mostly made up of small asteroid composed largely of radioactive and metallic minerals. The main asteroid belt occupies the orbit between Ah Kin and Tabai, between 3 and 4AU from Alpha Centauri A. Terrans use the belt asteroids to harvest resources valuable for creating composite materials. The belt contains millions of objects over a kilometer in diameter, and are an effectively limitless source of resources.

[edit] Tabai

Tabai (7.4 AU) masses 5 times as much as all other planets put together. It is composed largely of hydrogen with many other gas elements and trace particles. Tabai is many times larger than Jupiter and has nearly two hundred moons. Tabai is noted for its magnificent color bands. It is mostly light gray to the naked eye, but has bands of green, blue, and purple.

[edit] Ahau-Kin

Ahau-Kin (9.2 AU) is unusual among gas giants found throughout the galaxy. It has no moons. Ahau-Kin is the site of the famous Haven Shipyards, where much of the Onyx Empire's war machine was built between 2300 and 2323. Ahau-Kin occasionally heats to near plasma temperatures when Alpha Centauri B reaches the close portion of its orbit.

[edit] History

Whether or not Alpha Centauri was discovered or colonized during the era of the Anthronoris is completely unknown. Alpha Centauri was discovered by the Terrans early in their history, and they soon realized it could potentially have a world capable of supporting life.

On December 26, 2020, the first Terran interstellar flight--the UEAS Pytheas--arrived in the Alpha Centauri System. The first colony was established on March 18, 2027.
