Bethija is the 3rd planet in the Proxima Procyon System. It was once an entirely agricultural world. Now it has a robust industrial and commercial economy, but still has a powerful agricultural base.

Bethija was colonized in 2027, using funds and colonists from the Soviet region known as the Ukraine. After World War III, the Soviet Union joined the United Earth Alliance, and the regional economy in the Ukraine collapsed. With no opportunity on Earth, many opportunists raised the funds needed for a colony project. Nearly 30 million Ukrainians were moved to Bethija over the years.
The colony attempted to work on the extremely successful Ah Kin model, but with the socialist and democratic elements vying for control of the colony, it rapidly degenerated into a relatively lawless community.
In spite of the lack of central authority, the world became one of the most successful agricultural communities in the Sol Sector, so much so that the United Earth Alliance attempted to establish control over the world in 2063, beginning the series of events that eventually resulted in the First Exodus War.
While they had no central authority, the Ukrainian colonists wanted nothing to do with the Alliance, whom they saw as the Soviet overlords who abandoned them. The Alliance was met with partisan opposition, which they lacked the troop transport capacity to neutralize. They eventually resorted to orbital bombardment, much to the horror of their constituency. The locals surrendered and Bethija was incorporated into the United Earth Alliance as a member world, though the added voting base brought sweeping reforms.
During the Second Exodus War, Bethija defected to the Onyx Empire without a fight after hearing how well the people of Ah Kin were treated. After the United Mesarthrim Clans invaded Bethija in the late years of the Second Exodus War, they gave the planet independence. Because Bethija was not held by the Onyx Empire at the signing of the Treaty of Memphis, it was never subject to the jurisdiction of the Federated Districts of the Prefecture, and never held elections to determine if it would be a part of the new government. Instead, Bethija eventually joined the Colonial Commonwealth.

Bethija has three major continents, covering a wide range of biospheres and climates.

Litvinia is the largest, most densely populated continent. The capital city of Volyn is located here. It is also the site of the rather large Bagry Mountain Range and its huge network of natural caverns.
