Earth is the third planet in the Sol System. It is the birthworld of the Terran race. Earth is a natural source of water and has a breathable atmosphere, making it a natural biosphere capable of supporting carbon-based life. Earth also has a natural magnetic field that protects the surface from radiation.

Earth was scoured of advanced technology and most of its population in 18000BC during the Sundering. Human civilization on the surface was reduced to a Stone Age level of technology. Several generations passed before humanity could begin to recover, and their recovery was wiped out when the Ice Age began. At the end of the Ice Age in 8000BC, humanity on Earth began to recover and make advancements into a modern society. By the 21st Century, the Terrans had become a hyperspace society, and had begun colonizing the stars.
Earth had many different nations until the United Earth Alliance government was formed in the 21st Century. This first unified planetary government ruled Earth until the 24th century, when it was defeated by the Onyx Empire during the Second Exodus War. The Onyx Empire ruled Earth until it was driven off towards the end of the Second Exodus War, during the Liberation of Earth. Control of Earth was turned over to locals when the Alliance of Planets created the Sol System Authority to run the day-to-day government affairs for the planet.
Since the Liberation of Earth, the fragile control of the climate that the United Earth Alliance and the Onyx Empire had maintained was shattered. Once again, the climate is subject to extreme weather like tornadoes and hurricanes. Seismic activity has increased in some area, causing an increase in total earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. Additionally, the war caused many areas to be contaminated by radiation, toxins, and infestation by virulent bacteria. While this widespread destruction has hurt the human population, the planet has begun to recover.

Earth has seven continents, six of which are inhabited. The continents used to be significantly different in terms of population density, economic prosperity, and agricultural use. When the planetary government was formed, a lot of property was traded and moved around to balance out the population in a more sensible system. Earth's terrain varies greatly from place to place. About 70% of the surface is covered by water. The submerged surface has mountainous features, including undersea volcanoes, trenches, submarine canyons, oceanic plateaus and abyssal plains. The remaining 30% not covered by water consists of mountains, deserts, plains, and plateaus.
Earth has a natural weather system without any sort of artificial controls. It has a number of relatively homogeneous climates: tropical, subtropical, arid, temperate and polar climates. Earth provides resources that are exploitable by humans for useful purposes. Many minerals, heavy metals and radioactive materials are mined in to fuel the Earth economy. Earth's biosphere produces many useful biological products for humans. By carefully maintaining a balance in land use, humanity can maintain a biosphere that is profitable and pleasant to live in.

Since the 20th Century, North America has been the center of economic power. When the United Earth Alliance government was formed, its capital was located in the city of Denver Colorado. The fall of the United Earth Alliance marked the end of Denver's importance. The Empire set its seat of power in the city of Memphis.
North America was the site of some of the bloodiest combat engagements during the Liberation of Earth.

After the overwhelming destruction wrought during the Liberation of Earth, South America was largely unscathed. The city of Rio de Janeiro became the new capital of the planet when the Sol System Authority was founded. Since then, South America has become very important to the Earth economy, and is the site of most spaceports on the planet.

The great African continent greatly suffered during the Liberation of Earth, and every major population center was wiped out. It is on the lowest priority for the recovery efforts for the planet, mostly due to the loss of most of the people living there.

Asia is the center of increased seismic activity on the planet, and many population centers have been shaken apart by earthquakes or buried in landslides. Asia is the top priority for rebuilding, and new tremor-proof building designs are being put forward for constructions of new cities.

The European continent was not the target of many conventional or nuclear weapons, but some of the most virulent plagues ever spawned were used on the human population. Most European population centers are ghost towns, with only some hold-outs in France, England, and Poland.

Australia was conquered by the United Mesarthrim Clans during the counter-Imperial invasion in the Liberation of Earth and was relatively unscathed by the calamities that were visited on the rest of the planet.

The southern polar region no longer has much scientific use to humanity. Because of the completely inhospitable climate, all scientific research outposts have been abandoned in favor of more important fields of study.
