The Prefecture has an almost completely unregulated economy. Most industry is self-regulated and safe, but some industries are almost rogueish and dangerous.

The Prefecture has a very successful medical supply industry, and is also the leading supplier of AI software in the galaxy. Medical technology in particular is in extremely high demand from the Ixoarchada and the Lorithos, where the Prefecture's organ regeneration technology, cancer treatments, and other advanced life-saving medicines cannot be locally produced.

The Prefecture has very limited domestic antimatter production, and relies heavily on nuclear power, which accounts for 100% of the Prefecture's civilian energy production. The military also uses nuclear power, but needs antimatter for its warships' hyperspace drives.
Nuclear power is so abundant that nearly every city with more than 5,000 citizens has a local fission power plant. Fission reactors were advanced by the Onyx Empire during the Second Exodus War to the point where they were abundant, cheap, safe, and completely automated. Other than a semi-annual inspection and monthly maintenance checks, the plants are completely autonomous.
Larger cities are powered by one or more nuclear fusion reactors. These reactors are based on less mature technology, and require a crew to operate and monitor them around the clock. There are no recorded containment breaches, but a few reactors have been shut down during operation for safety reasons.

The Prefecture has the largest devoted agriculture center in the galaxy: the Laojiu District. Every world in the District is devoted entirely to the production of foodstuffs. It exports almost two-thirds of what is produced.

Tourism is almost nonexistant in the Prefecture, though some of its colder worlds are popular resort attractions for Ikronin, who love the cold, but not the permafrost of their homeworld.

The Prefecture is one of the largest arms suppliers in the galaxy. Most of the weapons produced in the Prefecture are used by the Prefecture's military, but other nations also produce Prefecture-built weapons.
While there are more advanced technologies, more powerful technologies, and more reliable technologies, there are few which have been proliferated or developed to the point of the Prefecture's weaponry. If a weapons technology is developed and deployed by the Prefecture, it quickly becomes the de-facto standard against which all other technologies are measured.
