Entropy Drive

The Entropy Drive is the Terran-based technology used by the Prefecture to enter the subspace shallows. It acts as a very effective stealth method.

[edit] Development

During the Second Exodus War, the Onyx Empire captured six Mesarthrim Omega Bombs. Their use of Omega radiation was studied in depth by Royal Imperial Labs' Energy Laboratory, under the guidance of Dr. Richard Holder.

During an experiment with one of the weapons, Holder managed to develop a prototype which used the radiation, but as a catalyst for entering Subspace rather than as a weapon. Lucius Black considered the design a failure, but Anthony Hadrian was intrigued enough to order Dr. Holder to continue development.

[edit] Deployment

By the end of the Second Exodus War and the Torimur Civil War, Dr. Holder managed to finish a stable Entropy Drive. By the time it was ready for deployment, the Federated Districts of the Prefecture had stabilized its power base, and set up an operation to capture all assets of Royal Imperial Labs. All personnel were offered positions with the Prefecture, but Dr. Holder declined. The Prefecture seized the prototype and his notes, and Dr. Holder's staff abandoned him for the job offers with the Prefecture.

The new Delphinus Class Cruiser was promptly refitted with the Entropy Drive, and the design was eventually duplicated and mounted on the Nautilus Class Subspace Prowler.

[edit] Controversy

After Dr. Holder joined the Colonial Commonwealth, he began to attempt to replicate his efforts with the Entropy Drive. He petitioned the Prefecture for access to his notes several times, but was constantly denied.

The Commonwealth attempted to gain access, but the Onyx Empire's war secrets were not covered in the terms of the Treaty of Memphis. While only a minor issue, this has been a sticking point in diplomatic relations between the Commonwealth and Prefecture.
