First Contact is a term describing the first meeting of two cultures previously unaware of one another. It most commonly refers to a culture previously unaware of intelligent species outside its own making contact with the galactic community.

[edit] Meroniri

The Meroniri have always been aware of other intelligent species, and were the first society to begin actively seeking out other survivors of the Sundering. Their first contact with another human society was the Ikronin.

[edit] Ikronin

The Ikronin lost most of their space travel technology during the Sundering, but did not forget that humanity existed on other worlds. For much of their early space-faring career, the Ikronin developed their Wormhole Gate technology. They sought out worlds that could be of use for them, and set up a Gate back to Kronheim. In the year 1000AD, the Ikronin and Meroniri Terinasi both explored a world full of useful resources.

The drastic differences in their culture were easy to overcome, as both had peaceful intentions--though their vastly different languages made for some rather awkward meetings. Before long, the two races had set up contact with each other and established trade routes. By installing Gates over every Meroniri world, the Ikronin made star travel cheap and affordable even to lower class people.

While this was not yet the start of the Alliance of Planets, the two civilizations established a strong bond of friendship that would survive unbroken for millennia. They also agreed not to interfere in the development of any race that had not yet discovered hyperspace, wormholes, or other forms of faster than light travel.

[edit] Terrans

The Terrans had discovered hyperspace, began undergoing diaspora, and fought their first major interstellar war in the form of the First Exodus War before making First Contact with the Meroniri.

[edit] Lorithos

With the deaths of the last heirs to the throne, Zak Huern was the only leader figure to the surviving people of Lorithan. He pushed on with the hyperspace project, hoping to find a new world for the survivors. The first test probe made a round trip from Lorithan to the outer limits of the starsystem in ten minutes.

The hyperspace tunnel was noticed by a United Earth Alliance scout ship. A delegation of Alliance of Planets representatives--Ikronin, Meroniri, and Terrans--met with Zak Huern and the people of Lorithan.

Seven years after First Contact, Lorithan's future was beginning to look better. A new representative republic form of government was created, and medical help from the Meroniri Terinasi ensured that the people of Lorithan weren't doomed to rapid extinction from the rampant diseases and toxins.

[edit] Reigens

Technically, the Reigens were already aware of other races at the beginning of their history, as they were a slow-ship cryogenic colony from Kronheim and the Ikronin.

The Reigens and the Juns were a unified people under the Reigess Suverände before they made "true" First Contact with the rest of humanity. They discovered hyperspace in the 22nd Century, but were limited to the Dva Band during most of their early exploration. They discovered, claimed, and exploited Njiorin's Well in 2167, and stopped their expansion when the use of antimatter allowed them to turn Junheim into a veritable paradise.

In 2300, an Alliance of Planets Explorer Corps surveyor ship "discovered" Njiorin's Well, and made peaceful First Contact with the Reigens on behalf of the Alliance of Planets. For a while, some believed the Reigens would join the Alliance, but in 2304 the "Heritage Crisis" cold war began between the Reigens and the Ikronin over control of Njiorin's Well, ending all chances of the Reigens joining the Alliance of Planets.

[edit] Ixoarchada

The Ixoarchada monitored the Mesarthrim and Terran nations until the end of the Second Exodus War, then made First Contact with the United Mesarthrim Clans on September 19, 2323.
