Hannah Baruk (born April 18, 2280) was born in the Israeli district of Earth, but her family emigrated to the Sirius Cluster when she was only four years old. She grew up in the Berlusconi Family Territory, and received training from the Berlusconis in naval operations. Late in her Berlusconi career, Baruk even received a short posting on the coveted NGV Giuseppe Garibaldi.
[edit] Pre-War Career
Hannah Baruk was posted to the NGV Verona during the mafia war on Ah Kin. Both the Berlusconi and the Nakamura families had discovered the existence of the Onyx Empire, and were of differing opinions on what to do with the information. In the brutal street war that followed, the Nakamura wiped out nearly every Berlusconi cell.
One group of five Berlusconi enforcers escaped and attempted to hijack passage out of the Alpha Centauri System. They never made it, but the NGV Verona intercepted their last transmission several months later. It was too garbled to make any sense, and by the time it was received it was too late to make a difference. The Onyx Empire was on the move.

Baruk was present at both the Battle of Sirius Kuza and the Rimworlds Massacre as part of the gunnery crew of the NGV Giuseppe Garibaldi during the Sirius Incursion, and received commendations for her performance in both operations. It was only after the war's end that news of the Sirius Incursion became widely known.

With the destruction of the Royal Imperial Navy and the official commission by the Prefecture Galactic Navy of the six Fleets of the Line, Baruk returned and offered her services. By that time, she'd made quite a name for herself on the frontier, and was a terror to pirates and similar predators. After some time in the Prefecture Galactic Navy as a junior officer and later warship commander, Hannah Baruk received command of the Sixth Fleet and the BG-6 Bastion.
Most of her highest-ranking crew is hand-picked. Baruk made many friends in the frontier, and many of them followed her to the Prefecture. As an Admiral, she could pick and choose any officer for any rank aboard the Bastion. Some accuse Baruk of cronyism, but she has no tolerance for incompetence. She threw her former second-in-command out of the service, and he had been an excellent friend on the frontier.
Baruk's record is exemplary. Her service everywhere mirrors her rookie fleet command at the Battle of Tavou, where she and the Ixoarchada Admiral Palontir Taukin masterminded the defeat of the Volucris swarms in space and in the air.
