[edit] History

Main article: History

The Ikronin Jurekön is a loose organization of corporations, tied together by a common homeworld--Kronheim--and a common desire to protect themselves. They are non-aggressors in war, but when on the defense they can be quite fierce.

[edit] Government

Main article: Government

Very few Ikronin are interested in having a government boss them around. Instead, they band together for their defense, and work mostly towards their favorite prize--profit.

Corporations are the driving force behind defense and expansion. Most Ikronin are employees of one corporation or another, but some prefer to work individually. The independents usually pay a small fee to one corporation or another for shelter and protection during war.

Right now, there are only three major corporations doing interstellar business, but any could rise or fall overnight. There's no regulation governing the creation of corporations--because there's no government to regulate it. Competing corporations don't discourage the growth of new companies, as it would violate their laws.

[edit] Law

Main Article: Law

At the dawn of Ikronin civilization, the "Rules of Trade and Equivalency" were created by Yngvi the Aged, which banned benevolence and altruism, requiring any exchange of goods to have some price. This was meant to make the then-vulnerable Ikronin strong, but it eventually became a central concept to their culture.

While the giving of gifts is no longer strictly banned by law, the main law of the Jurekön is still the Rules of Trade and Equivalency.

[edit] Foreign Relations

Main Article Foreign Relations

The Jurekön managed to maintain good relations with all of its neighbors for centuries. While it looked at many of them more as customers than as friends, it was a mutually beneficial relationship.

While it enjoyed centuries of peace, the 24th Century brought the Jurekön into many conflicts. The first was known as the Heritage Crisis, a cold war with their Reigen cousins over the control of Njiorin's Well. Next, they were briefly involved in the Second Exodus War. Finally, the Jurekön became a key factor in the Tempest War, where they emerged from being merely a commercial power and emerged as a military power.

[edit] Military

Main Article: Military

Military organization and training isn't their strong point, but during the founding of the Alliance of Planets, the United Earth Alliance's military trainers spent a lot of time helping the Ikronin develop their military. Ikronin organization is similar to the old Earth system for Army, Navy and Air forces.

The Ikronin Jurekön's armed forces are divided into three branches:

[edit] Transportation

Main Article: Transportation

The vast network of Wormhole Gates developed and deployed across the Orion Arm is the center of Ikronin transportation. The network allows ships to travel between the stars without the need for expensive hyperspace drive systems.

Most Ikronin do not usually leave their home cities. When they do, they usually fly in personal or mass transit aircraft. Within their own cities, they usually walk or use inexpensive mass transit.

The more traditional tundra-dwelling Ikronin often rely on the Fenrulf as a means of transportation, either riding the huge creatures or having them pull carts or sleds.

[edit] Territory

Main Article: Territory

For centuries, the Ikronin remained on Kronheim, content to control only the Yngard System and only briefly stop by new worlds to gather resources. More recently, they colonized the world of Myrdrasil, and have joined the Federated Districts of the Prefecture in a joint colonization program.

[edit] Economy

Main Article: Economy

Commerce is the strength of the Ikronin. They don't produce a great number of products, but they do control the Wormhole Gate system, and have a huge fleet of merchant ships. The Ikronin "Likvada" is the strongest currency in the known galaxy.

[edit] Demographics

Main Article: Demographics

Citizenship in the Jurekön requires employment by one of the corporations. Many Ikronin living on Kronheim are not actually citizens because of their choice to live on the open tundra.

Because citizenship is an automatic privaledge of being employed by one of the corporations, the Jurekön has many non-Ikronin citizens. Terrans are the most common, but Meroniri and Ngrligru are not unheard of. Prior to the Tempest War, there were some Mesarthrim citizens, but the corporations fired and deported all Mesarthrim once the United Centusi States began destroying Wormhole Gates as a war strategy.

[edit] Culture

Main Article: Culture

The Ikronin have several contrasted cultural identities. There is a deep-seated cultural desire for profit and materialism, officially sanctioned by the law and the Jurekön itself. The elite of Ikronin society tend to uphold these cultural values, but also recognize the value of not enforcing conformity on their employees.

While called "more traditional", the tundra lifestyle and spiritual cultural values are actually a more recent development within Ikronin society. The movement began with Raegos Direnson, before his departure with the Reigen colonization program.

Bridging the gap between the two are the military-minded, who call themselves "descendants of tundra warriors." This cultural persona is a fabrication or wishful thinking, but it instills a mindset of guardianship that the corporate leaders of the Jurekön wish to cultivate in their armed forces, so it is actively encouraged by mainstream Ikronin society.
