Jack "Paladin" Ivonrud (born January 1, 2300) was was one of the premiere students of flying in the cloning/gene-splicing project. A fine pilot, but nothing extraordinary until both Emil Torsc and Marcus Rathbone took an interest in him. Both aces were determined to break him out of his hard-line brainwashing and make him into the first of the next generation of flying aces.

[edit] Birth
Jack Ivonrud was artificially gestated until January 1, 2300, when he was sent to live with the Ivonrud family. They raised him and eleven others like him until age six.

Jack Ivonrud met and befriended Jan Brooks in the Imperial academy on Alpha Centauri. The two of them graduated the standard academy and went on to flight school. Much of the Empire's brainwashing took hold on them, but they retained a small spark of intellect and individuality that soon broke free again.

When Jack Ivonrud began fighting in the Invasion of Earth, both Marcus Rathbone and Emil Torsc took an interest in teaching him to fly by instinct and courage. They were both successful, but Marcus Rathbone won himself a protégé. Jack Ivonrud earned command of the Blue Knights Squadron and quickly fashioned it into one of the best fighter groups in the Royal Imperial Air Force, making quite a name for himself in the Operation Tartarus.

Jack Ivonrud flew a Raven for most of his career. Even when more advanced Vampires and Stukas became available, Ivonrud kept his Raven. In one particularly stunning mock dogfight over Neptune, he managed to defeat six newer fighters being tested, earning himself the nickname "Paladin."
[edit] Imperial Civil War
In 2322, when the Prefecture was formed, Jack was still under the command of Marcus Rathbone. It took some serious soul searching to fully break free of the Emperor's brainwashing, but he finally became his own man and swore his loyalty to the Prefecture's Air Force. Recognizing his skill, Rathbone made him second in command, and together they burned a path of glory paved with the blood and shattered fighters of Imperial pilots.
On September 17th, 2322, Marcus Rathbone was shot down by Emil Torsc and critically injured. As a result of his injuries, he was permanently disabled and confined to a wheelchair. Jack Ivonrud took the mantle of leadership.

Commander wasn't a role Ivonrud would play for long. On February 12th, 2323, Jack Ivonrud led the air assault on Mount McKinley, the Emperor's last stronghold on Terra. During the battle, he got into a one-on-one dogfight with Emil Torsc. Torsc shot down and killed Ivonrud after two minutes, a long dogfight considering that most engagements last ten seconds or less.
Jack Ivonrud is sorely missed by his comrades.
