Nicholai Andrei Asanova (born October 19, 2267) was the most feared and ruthless leader of the Sirius Families.
Nicholai inherited the position of Velikiy Kniaz in 2297. His rule over the family was strongly opposed by several uncles and by his younger brother, Yuri. The political turmoil in the family brewed silently for three years, when one of Nicholai's rivals attempted to assassinate him.
The assassination attempt failed: Nicholai was a powerful man and a deadly opponent. He overpowered and strangled his attacker, then hunted down and killed his would-be assassin's backup with his bare hands.
In retaliation, Nicholai murdered his brother Yuri and two of his uncles, and placed their severed heads on display in his capital, Alexeiburg. This macabre display of ruthless power deeply concerned the other Sirius families, but Nicholai soon showed his diplomatic side.
In 2304, the Berlusconi and Nakamura family rivalries flared into street fighting on Sirius Aichi. The Berlusconi Dons believed that the Nakamuras had hacked into one of their vital information brokering databases, leading to a hit on a Nakamura computer center.
While the street war raged, Nicholai ordered his own technicians to trace the hack, and discovered a previously unknown cell of intelligence agents. Unknown to the Asanovas, these were Omegas, attempting to infiltrate the Sirius Cluster. When Nicholai's men moved in to capture them, they destroyed their equipment and committed suicide. Nicholai presented their bodies and the evidence he had uncovered, ending the Berlusconi family's excuse for a street war and restoring the uneasy peace to the Cluster.
Nicholai Asanova continued to solidify his reputation as a ruthless leader with a diplomatic mind. He further proved his violent efficiency during the Sirius Incursion, when he had Rear Admiral Victor Pryce and Governor-Apparent Carmen Solana beheaded, and their remains sent back to Earth as a warning against further Imperial aggression.
