The "Raven's Wings" was the unofficial nickname for the "Royal Imperial Laboratories Experimental Manned Aircraft/Spacecraft Test Pilot Program."
During the F-4 Raven fighter test program, Emil Torsc joked that the test pilots were so important to the program that they "might as well be the wings." The nickname instantly stuck.

The first test flight by the Raven's Wings (who had not earned their nickname at the time) was the XF-1 prototype, an experimental atmosphere/vacuum airframe meant to be capable of escape velocity, re-entry and combat maneuvers in both environments. Emil Torsc undertook the first test flight in 2300, and promptly declared it "an underpowered slug."
